2005: 16th Annual Mendocino Coast Writers Conference Moved to August

A special theme of the 2005 Conference will be “Going Public,”

There’ll be some changes for the 16th Annual Mendocino Coast Writers Conference (MCWC): it will still be the three-day close encounter with top writers, agents and publishers it has always been, but the dates for the conference have been moved to August 11, 12 & 13 in 2005.

A special theme of the 2005 Conference will be “Going Public,” with pre and post publication workshops in book design, hiring professional help, pitching your work to agents and publishers, being your own publicist, and giving readings.

Also featured will be an Independent Publishers Panel, including Calyx’s Marguerite Donnelly and David Godine of David Godine Publishing. Presenters include Dorianne Laux, Diane Thiel, David Weitzman, Cynthia Frank, Carolyn Cooke and Bonnie Hearn Hill.

Highlights of the Upcoming August 2005 Conference

Also featured will be an Independent Publishers Panel,

We're excited that agent Elizabeth Wales, children's writer David Weitzman, Ronnie Gilbert (yes, the Ronnie Gilbert) and poet Diane Thiel, among others, will be new at MCWC in 2005. We hope that our switch from an early June to a naturally air-conditioned mid-August weekend will make attending the conference more convenient and enjoyable for many of you.

Poet Dorianne Laux and fiction writer Bonnie Hearn Hill will be back by popular demand and we'll have our usual lineup of fine writers who can also teach (a rare breed) to help you polish your craft. We'll focus too on more confidently "Going Public" with your writing by bringing you a Pre and Post Publishing panel and sessions on reading in public, by actress, Sandy Pardini; successful signing parties, presented by independent publisher, Cynthia Frank and Joe Molloy's book design class which was cancelled due to an emergency last year. One on one consults will again be available and this year we are inaugurating six work scholarships. Plan to enter our contest and to register soon. Looking forward to seeing you in August.

Sponsored by, and held at, the Fort Bragg Campus of the College of the Redwoods, each year the MCWC presents opportunities for writers to learn skills to improve their craft and connect with publishers and agents.

The Conference opens on Thursday, August 11, with all-day intensives in a single subject (poetry, novel, mystery, etc.) taught by the 2005 presenters. Thursday evening is the official opening reception where attendees meet the presenters.

Friday and Saturday, August 12 and 13, are devoted to 2-hour lecture sessions and/or workshops, punctuated by presenter readings, panel discussions, and contest and scholarship winner readings. These are held at the CR Campus Library and are open to the public.

Closing festivities for all attendees and presenters include a dinner at Mendocino’s lovely Hill House Inn and Restaurant followed by an after-hours beach party for the intrepid.

Visit the MCWC website for updates and information on registration and contests at www.mcwc.org <http://www.mcwc.org/> , or contact the Conference Directors at info@mcwc.org. Registration is limited to 100 participants.
